Abstract

This article analyses the development of the Philippine ballads and their relationship to their Hispanic heritage, both drama («Moors and Christians») and lyrical epics («Books of Chivalry»), and how the concept of the Exòtic influenced how they were adapted to the Philippines. At the same time, it deals with the Philippine ballads about the Kingdom of Valencia, analysing the sources and the way of presenting this theme in the Philippine ballad, and ultimately tracing the course of the elegy for Valencia from arq al-Àndalus to Asia.
