Les reedicions de la "Biblioteca catalana" (1919-1922) Authors August Rafanell Abstract In 1917 the creation of Editorial Catalana marks the climax of the nineteenth-century Catalan politico-cultural movement called Noucentisme. Josep Carner, as literary coordinator of the project proposed a reform of Catalan prose based on new aesthetic and idiomatic models. To make them viable, it was necessary that they should serve both contemporary authors and those who had written at an earlier time. Prose writers who accepted the new trend conscientiously adapted the language and style of their writing. On the other hand, authors like Narcís Oller whose older work was reprinted were forced to see their literary output manipulated, not only through the application of new spelling rules, but also grammatical and lexical innovations or even just fancies of the new era of Catalan cultural history.
