Abstract

In this article I propose to study and compare the narration of the legend of the loss of Spain included in Onofre Manescals Sermó del rey Jaume (1597) and the account with which the converted Moslem Miguel de Luna began his extensive description of Moslem rule in the Peninsula, la Historia verdadera del rey Rodrigo (1592). The first, ostensibly shorter, is basically modelled on Lunas statement of the facts, although it soon diverges to take its own course and defend concepts and theories alien to Luna and, as I hope to have shown, in complete contradiction with him.
