La Funció local en les formes de relatiu de la producció escrita en aranès

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to establish the number of written local relatives in the Occitan of the Valley of Aran. In written Aranese, we commonly find the constructions preposició + article + quau and preposició + qué (both normative in Catalan, but in fact archaic in Occitan and rarely used in spoken Aranese) and also preposició + article + que (common in Spanish, but not allowed in certain contexts in normative Catalan or Occitan). Parallel to this, written Aranese avoids the construction with duplicated connective que in subordinate clauses, a construction that frequently occurs in spoken and normative Occitan despite being proscribed by Fabra. Patterns of usage of local relatives show that the Occitan spoken in the Valley of Aran diverges from the grammatical patterns of General Occitan and approximates to the languages spoken further south: Catalan and Spanish.
