Abstract

This article studies the treatment of Charles II of Anjou, King of Naples (1248-1309), in Ramon Muntaners Chronicle. By comparing the way the monarch is seen by medieval historians like Desclot, Neocastro, Villani, etc., as well as other extant anonymous texts, it emerges that this king is presented in a positive, and even an exemplary way by Catalan sources, including Muntaner, while Italian works such as the Historia Sicula held a rather negative point of view.
