Abstract

The Lexis of the Valencian Parliament in Modern Times The study of the lexis of the Valencian parliament in modern times brings to light new data for understanding historical Catalan vocabulary. In particular, the focus is on synonyms, learned words, formal variants, words andmeanings not recorded in historical and etymological dictionaries, undocumented and previously documented forms, and recessive or archaizing words. In order to relate the words better to the history of Catalan lexis, comparisons are made with other contemporary texts, both earlier and later ones, and, when necessary, with other languages. The study of the lexis of the Valencian parliament in the post-Classical period shows the relevance of modern legal/administrative texts to the history of Catalan lexis. The documentation fromthis period, which has traditionally been undervalued froma linguistic point of view, allows us to complete the history of Catalan vocabulary by filling in the gaps in the existing documentation and gain a better understanding of the changes that this vocabulary has undergone up to the present.
