L'Expressió de l'abstracció i estudi de les traduccions : les poesies d'Ausiàs Marc i la traducció espanyola de Baltasar de Romaní Authors Josep Martines Peres Abstract A comparative analysis of the work of Ausiàs Marc and the sixteenth-century translation by Baltasar de Romaní is of some linguistic utility. In this article, we examine a point of interest to Catalan syntax: the use of the masculine singular definite article in the creation of abstract nouns and before the relative que. This use has suffered interference from a form that is peculiar to Spanish: the so-called neuter lo. Therefore (a) we describe the behaviour of the masculine definite article in generating abstract nouns and before the relative in Marcs text and, in this case, its alternation with the demonstrative ço; (b) we note how Romaní translates these contextual variants and, thus, we try to estimate to what extent he was competent in the use of neuter lo. We offer information about an aspect of grammar hitherto unstudied in corpora. Since we are dealing with a poetic text, we can describe the appearance of the variants of the masculine abstract definite article /l/ with precision.
