Abstract

The aim of this article is to examine the first Romance prose translations of the Historia Regum Britanniae by Geoffrey of Monmouth. The texts dealt with are the French translation from ms. fr. (French manuscript) 17177 of the BNF, the extracts translated into Catalan preserved in ms. esp. (Spanish manuscript) 13 of the BNF, and the Spanish translation in Alfonso Xs General Estoria. The analysis of each translation is completed with some considerations on the relationship between these and the Histoire Ancienne jusquà César as a possible historical model.
