Abstract

The mystical thought of St. John of the Cross is the fruit of his exegetical work on the books and central biblical passages of Hebraic spirituality. The “Descalzo” left a record of this knowledge and alluded directly to the pillars of the Judeo-Christian reformism characteristic of the peninsular culture of the second half of the 16th century. This article is a partial account of the work and reformist intentions of the west’s most charismatic mystic.
