Abstract

The literary career of Josep Carner, especially during the early years, is closely linked to the institution of the Jocs Florals, both in Barcelona and around Catalonia and Mallorca. The first note in this article is an attempted reconstruction of the development of the interlacing of the stories by Carner and those in the Jocs Florals between 1898, the year of Carner’s initial participation in the Jocs Florals in Barcelona, and 1908, the year Carner wrote one of his most important texts on Catalan literature, “De l’acció dels poetes a Catalunya”. The second note outlines Carner’s ideas on the figure of the Reina de la Festa and the role of women in society between 1904 and 1908. To complete this contribution, there is an annex with the transcription of three practically unknown Discursos de Gràcies by Josep Carner, to which critics have never paid any attention (Capellades 1906, Igualada 1908 and Palma 1910). Finally, also in an annex, there is a list, hopefully containing, if not all, the majority of Carner’s engagements in the Jocs Florals.
