Abstract

This article studies the initial reception of the work of Joan Salvat-Papasseit and, more specifically, the period from August the 7th 1924, the day of the poet’s death, to the last months of 1925, when his collection of unpublished poems Ossa menor, appears posthumously in print. Despite being a relatively short period, the publication of numerous texts in the daily press, journals and books (Tomàs Garcés and Agustí Esclasans being the most important authors) enabled a number of biographical and literary clichés about Salvat to become established, along with an inconsistent rating of his poetry, which, over the years, become recurrent in the literature.
