Fonética asturleonesa en las hablas populares de Extremadura Authors José Antonio González Salgado Campo Arqueológico de Mértola DOI: 10.2436/20.2500.01.382 Keywords: phonetics, Astur-Leonese, the speech of Extremadura, dialect studies Abstract Starting from dialect monographs and linguistic atlases, in this article we examine the phonetic traits of Astur-Leonese that have been identified in Extremadura and assess their current vitality. For this purpose, we divide the study into three parts: in the first, we focus on the phonetic features of Astur-Leonese origin that have been included in general dialect studies; in the second, we analyse various phonetic phenomena with a low functional load and which reveal merely a token presence in the north of the province of Cáceres; in the third part, we study three phonetic features that have been considered Astur-Leonese in some cases and Castilian in others.
