Abstract

Rafael Tasis (Barcelona, 1906 – Paris, 1966) was crucial to shaping the critical discourse on post-war Catalan literature. When he returned from exile in Paris in 1948, he became involved in the cultural recovery of Catalonia and established liaison among the Catalan diaspora. He contributed assiduously to the journals for political exiles (notably La Nostra Revista, Pont Blau, Vida Nova and Xaloc), and maintained intense correspondence with writers who had taken refuge in Europe or America. As a literary critic, he defended the need to reach a broad readership, which would include the upcoming generations, be able to contribute to the «New Renaissance» of Catalan literature, and establish an efficient and fruitful exchange of ideas between the writers in exile and those who remained.
