Abstract

Ramon de Cornet is the most important Occitan poet of the 14th century. His vast body of work is the touchstone of the tendencies in late Troubadouresque poetry and how it develops on the basis of contemporary culture. However, he also shows original traits of his own, which are a product of the cross between the troubadour legacy and his clerical education. This article presents a completely new overview of the author: his work is considered in relation to his status as both a troubadour and a member of the clergy, laying emphasis on the atmosphere he lived in and how this determined certain aspects of his poetry. Furthermore, recognition of his intended public allows us to add to this knowlEstudisedge. The immediate acceptance of his work is a direct consequence of the manuscript tradition and, in a way, makes up for the missing links in the chain of transmission of his output. We propose possible diffusion channels for the lyrical poetry of the time and its wide circulation around the Kingdom of Aragon.
