Abstract

Rodoreda's language has been largely neglected over the years despite the fact that she is considered one of the most prominent and widely translated writers of twentieth- century Catalan literature. This study aims to examine a sample of similes used as a way to refer to a superlative quality. Through La plaça del Diamant and its translations into English, Spanish and French, we will conduct a detailed analysis of how translators have dealt with this important figure of speech, which is highly characteristic of Rodoreda's narrative.
