Abstract

This article presents the results of a quantitative analysis of data on the intonation of Friulian in the Friulian section of the Atles Multimèdia de la Prosòdia de l'Espai Romànic (AMPER-FRIÛL) based on a corpus of 2,484 sentences. An analysis of intonational data from four varieties of this language and subsequent comparison with data from other Romance languages (Italian, Sardinian, Catalan, Castilian) shows that, as far as its intonation is concerned, Friulian is a language with little internal variation. Despite this, its prosody is clearly different to that of its closest Romance neighbours, like Italian.
