Abstract

The essay presents the biographical relationships between Robin George Collingwood, Leo Strauss and Arnaldo Momigliano and their theoretical criticisms on historicism. The discussion is centred on their interpretations of history and their answers on the problem of relativism in the historical research. The conceptual analysis is developed through the dialectic between tradition and truth, change and permanence, localization and universality. In Collingwood the answer to the historical relativism is philosophy of history; in Strauss is the history of philosophy; in Momigliano is the history of historiography.
