Self-government requires well-developed statistical data. The Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat) is officially charged with this role. Good statistical information requires first of all no duplication among public agencies, both for better information to the public and also for the maximum use of available sources. To maximise accessibility Idescat has devoleped electronic direct access by all users through the web page www.idescat.es. Constantly updated information is provided on the economy, commercial activity,foreign trade, employment, and industry. The territorial breakdown goes down to county, municipal and precinct level. Population mobility for work and study is also provided. All this information can be unloaded in format pdf There is also information on books and access to public statistics from all over the world, both at national and regional level. The Idescat web is the gateway to personalised information not available in standardized formats elsewhere.
