University students’ perception of payment for online news content Authors Ana Segura Anaya Universidad de Zaragoza Carmen Marta-Lazo Universidad de Zaragoza Natalia Martínez Oliván Universidad de Zaragoza Keywords: Internet, information consumption, press, business model, payment for content, youth. Abstract The development of the Internet is radically changing many areas of our daily life, including access to information. Media, and more precisely the written press, are experiencing an economic and systemic crisis and are searching for a new online funding model that will allow them to survive. In this context, it is particularly important to learn about the perception that youth – considered by some authors to be “digital natives” and information consumers in the present and especially in the future – have of journalistic information and its value. On the basis of a survey among students at the University of Zaragoza (N=220), this paper seeks to determine the behaviour of youth in relation to payment-for-information models as well as young people’s perception of information and the value they attribute to it.Keywords: Internet, information consumption, press, business model, payment for content, youth.
