Abstract

The Consueta (customary rules) of Girona Cathedral is a document that describes in great detail all the liturgical ceremonies of this church. There are different versions of this document; the oldest one is the Consueta Ecclesiae Gerundensis, written in the 14th century. This article will focus on the description of the festivity of Saint Narcissus, patron of Girona, as presented in the Consueta of 1595-1655, a significant source of information that supplies documentary evidence about the musical and ceremonial activity in the city. The liturgical content of the Consueta is presented within the urban ceremonial context of that time.
