El Manuscrito M 782/10 de la Biblioteca de Catalunya: un cuaderno de composición musical del siglo XVII Authors Andrea Puentes-Blanco Abstract This study provides a detailed description of Barcelona manuscript M 782/10 (E-Bbc 782/10) held at the Biblioteca de Catalunya (National Library of Catalonia). It is a collection of polyphonic motet drafts in Latin, annotated in a score and ascribed to Maria Joseph Portell, a composer whose biographical data are unknown. While earlier musicological literature dated the manuscript to the 16th century, codicological evidence suggests it be dated to the 17th century. This work offers a pioneering insight into this authors composition process since E-Bbc 782/10 is one of the few known sources in Spain dating from that period to present erasures, corrections and several versions of the same piece, thereby showing the various stages of the composition process of the said motets.
