Abstract

Salvador Laverni (1675-1758), a biographical note. This article presents the first biography of a hitherto little known Catalan baroque composer: Salvador Laverni (1675-1758). His musical production, constituted exclusively by religious works, has been found recently at Canet de Mar (Barcelona) and it includes Mass sections, psalms, Marian antiphons, motets and religious tonos and villancicos. Laverni spent his entire career as chapelmaster at the parish church at Mataró (Barcelona) from 1699 until his retirement in 1741; the article explores his ancestors and the origin of the family, as well as the influence of the relationship with whom later on would become Saint Josep Oriol.
