Abstract

One of the piano pieces frequently taught to students is Le Lac de Côme by Marie Cécile Galos. Despite its broad influence, our knowledge of the composer remains scant. As of April 2024, no structured research has been conducted, and the inconsistencies in the limited biographical information we are able to find online are striking. This article aims to highlight the composer and provide an initial outline of a contrasted biography. Additionally, it will analyse the reception that her music may have had in France between 1860 and 1930, the period in which all her compositions that are known today were published.
