Abstract

The creation of the Orchestra Pau Casals in 1920 was a big step forward in the field of symphonic music in Catalonia. Indeed, Pau Casals gave the city of Barcelona an extremely valuable musical implement that was destined to become one of the most prestigious symphony orchestras during the 17 years of its existence. This paper provides a view of the orchestra’s artistic conception on the basis of the repertoires which it performed in its concert seasons, highlighting the thoroughly modern premises of its programming.
