Abstract

This paper analyses Enric Morera’s programmatic musical work Traïdoria (Betrayal), which narrates an episode of gender violence in the countryside, based on the text written expressly for this work by his friend Lluís Berenguer. On the basis of a study of its musical characteristics, its connection with the written story and its temporal contextualization, we seek to emphasize the importance of the nexus between text and music in order to understand the composer’s communicative intentions on transforming words into notes. Likewise, the possible influence of the stay that Enric Morera made in Brussels to supplement his composition studies and his relation with the Flemish composer Paul Gilson are also highlighted.
