Abstract

In various ways, Francesc Bonastre i Bertran (1944-2017) was a pioneer in the field of musicology, including both the introduction of university studies in this discipline and the recovery of the musical heritage of Catalonia. On his initiative and with his active support, the Musical Documentation Centre (CDM, from the Catalan) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, from the Catalan) and the Musicological Research and Documentation Institute (IUDIM, from the Catalan) were created. The IUDIM was founded by an agreement between the UAB and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi (the universal heir to the estate of Josep Ricart i Matas). From both the CDM and the IUDIM, Francesc Bonastre led the first interventions aimed to describe the Catalan musical holdings. His legacy with respect to the musical heritage has been taken up by the UAB's IFMuC project.
