Relació entre la música i el text en la música religiosa del Barroc hispànic: de la retòrica a la música Authors Jordi Rifé i Santaló Abstract This article aims to give an overview of the link between music and text in specific religious works, both liturgical and in Romance, by Baroque music composers in Spain Victoria, Cererols, Ruiz Samaniego, Valls, Comes, Gómez Camargo, Vallès and Literes. We will seek to clearly show the relationship between rhetoric and the musical language components. Several Hispanic musical treatises are reviewed in order to extract the features of rhetorical-musical thought. These are interrelated with the European treatises ofthe times, particularly those of Burmeister and Kircher. An analysis is made from rhetorical-musical figures detailed in the treatises and it is applied to musical fragments of the works of the aforementioned composers. One conclusion, among others, is that rhetoric ensured that the musical discourse addressed the three main objectives pursued by the verbal communication of that era: docere, delectare et movere.
