Abstract

Viva Vos: on Catalan pronunciation of late Latin especially in musical texts. Latin pronunciation is a source of frequent errors and it has raised many doubts among non-specialists. Medieval and late Latin, even though they preserve many common traits, developed in particular ways in the different territories where it was used. Here it will be determined the traits of Catalan pronunciation compared to other pronunciations, especially the Italian, adopted by the Catholic Church. All this affects a rich literature of liturgical and secular texts, many of them with music. The article proposes clear rules addressed especially to the composition and vocal performance of these texts.
