Reflexive Digressions in Pere Calder’s Short Stories: On the Impersonal Narrator Personality as a Humorous Device Authors Denise Boyer Université Paris-Sorbonne Keywords: Calders, digression, impersonal narrator Abstract Device paper aims to establish the typology and examine the function of the reflexive digressions by the impersonal narrator in Pere Calder’s short stories, i.e., of the general considerations he offers outside the story. While by definition they show the same form and topics as those of the nineteenth century «serious novels» style, and they apparently have the same twofold purpose of legitimizing fiction and authoritatively conveying a certain worldview, they are an example of ironic reversal by inverting the usual effects of a literary device and thus amusing the reader at the expense of a discredited impersonal narrator.Key Words: Calders, digression, impersonal narrator Downloads Download data is not yet available.
