The aim of this article is to reflect on the difficulties in chemical kinetics when an irreversible reaction is ongoing. The heterogeneous reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid in an aqueous solution is carried out. The influences of different factors on this reaction speed are analyzed, also we find out the reaction order and the kinetic constant. We present a practical work that could be linked to teaching high school chemistry.
