Llibres de text i pràctiques d'ensenyament de la química (1700-1900. Part I: Manuals, disciplines escolars i protagonistes de l'educació científica Authors José Ramón Bertomeu Sánchez Abstract This work aims to summarize the main conclusions of recent scholarship on the history of science education. The discussion is focused on chemistry textbooks from the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly those published in France and Spain. The discussion is organised along the current research lines of history of science and presented in two successive papers. The first paper deals with the formation of academic disciplines and the principal historical protagonists involved in the reception and the production of the textbooks: readers, authors and publishers. The second paper will provide an overall picture of the main changes in the contents and structures of the textbooks and the related pedagogical ideas.
