Abstract

Working with socioscientific issues is an opportunity for the development of competent citizenship. We describe several processes (proposing dilemmas, selecting and validating sources of information, arguing and making decisions and acting) of interest in the application of controversies in the classroom. Tools and approaches are proposed for their application in the classroom, and are illustrated with several examples of chemistry teaching.
