Learning progression about the composition, structure and chemical transformation of matter Authors Vicente Talanquer University of Arizona Keywords: Chemical reaction, composition, learning progression, structure, substance. Abstract A learning progression is an instructional model for how to best organize the content and the learning experiences and assessments to promote student understanding of an idea. It is a conjecture about how to orchestrate and foster the construction of this idea based on findings from educational research. This paper presents a proposal for how to organize the construction of concepts and ideas related to the composition, structure and chemical transformation of matter based on results from existing research on student reasoning in these areas.keywords: Chemical reaction, composition, learning progression, structure, substance.
