Resum

Language and terminology of the 1789 economic memoirs of Domingos Vandelli.
This contribution presents the results of an analysis of the style and use of terminology in the work of Domingos Vandelli, who is considered to be one of the most important of the scientists and influential people in the Portugal of his time. The works analysed, especially memoirs on the natural resources of Portugal and Brazil, were published by the Academy in 1789 in the first volume of Memorias economicas da Academia Real das Sciencias de Lisboa, para o adiantamento da agricultura, das artes, e da industria em Portugal, e suas conquistes. Apart from examining the linguistic peculiarities that may be attributed to the author as an Italian speaker (or non-native speaker of Portuguese), attention must be paid in the work to the formal aspects of the composition of the text.
