Abstract

The main aim of this article is to show recent historical works related to scientific spaces and geographies of the science, a field of studies that offers excellent possibilities of study, and that can be studied considering a large variety of approaches, contexts and case studies. First, I will show that the nature is a space where a large number of scientific activities are produced, involving the participation of both experts and lay people. Later, I will show that cities are not just spaces where many scientific institutions are concentrated, but also a place constructed —at least in part— because of numerous scientific exchanges. Finally, I will focus on another scale of scientific spaces to consider some specific scientific spaces such as classrooms, hospitals, and laboratories. The aim of this article is to show how these levels —nature, cities and specific space— offer a great opportunity for history of science studies, when they are considered not just as passive agents nor independent units, but as scientific spaces connected with each other, and with society.
