Women’s Presence at the Worldwide Social Polycentric Forum of Bamako 2006 Authors Maryan Ismail Keywords: Africa, immigration, human rights, women’s rights Abstract This text is a testimony of the long-awaited arrival of women to worldwide forums like the one which took place in Bamako. This event is a victory, not only because it pores the growth of feminine associative organizations in Africa, but also because feminine perspective was a constant motto at the conference. Socio-economic progress, human rights and problems in gender relationships were discussed there. The local NGO Mali Enjeu and associations from Italy, France, Spain, Guinea, Togo, and Mali participated in the conference. Its main goal was to consolidate the bonds between female immigrants in the West and African women, to defend more forcfully human rights and social issues like poverty in Africa, traffic of women, new sanitary and educational projects, amongst others.
