While the Enlightenment proclaimed freedom in terms of the autonomy of individuals and made a clear separation between the private and the public sphere, nowadays responsibility has become a key issue, as private lige and politics are completely intertwined. In view of the wellbeing of coming generations, the writer calls for a reconsideration of the ambition for progress.
