How, When, and Why We Did a Butch Comic Authors Gema Arquero (Project Manager) Rosa Navarro (Ilustradora) Keywords: comic, lesbian subject-matter, visibility Abstract This article draws a review of the different aspects which played a prominent part in the genesis of the comic Salidas de emergencia (Emergency Exits). Its authors explain the importance that their personal situation and the political context of the Spain of 2005 had over the decision to begin their creative project, placing us, at the same time, in the cultural coordinates in which it is inscribed. With it, they also carry out a review of different cultural products of lesbian subject-matter, which make evident the particularities of the present comic.
