Conflictos entre municipios gallegos durante el Trienio Liberal: la lucha por la capitalidad

Abstract

The provincial division carried out during the Liberal Triennium had a great significance in Galicia. For the first time, the territory would be divided formally into four provinces. This would lead to many conflicts between municipalities but particularly between the cities of La Coruña and Santiago de Compostela as a result of their dispute over the capital. The article analyses both the arguments in defence of their positions and the attempts to transfer the Royal Court from La Coruña to Santiago de Compostela when this city lost the battle to become the capital of one of Galicias provinces.
