Da Teseo a Clistene : lo spazio politico negli studi francesi sulla Grecia antica nel XX secolo Authors Riccardo Di Donato Abstract As an homage paid to Jean-Pierre Vernant and Pierre Vidal-Naquet we have been revisiting the whole of contributions proposed by the French studies on political space of the Greeks. The particular case examined is the Athenian one, from Theseus? mythical synoecism to historical Cleistenes? reform. Human interventions on physical grounds, documented by archaeology, are interpreted. After a re-reading historical sources, the anthropological validity of the interpretation of public space, as shaped in the Louis Gernet?s essay on political symbolism of the koiné hestia, finds a problematical confirmation.
