Abstract

Since Mendeleevs proposal in 1869, the periodic table has fully consolidated its validity and has become the central axis of chemistry. However, the relevance of the periodic table does not require that it intrinsically provides chemical information. In fact, the usefulness of the periodic table is a direct function of previous chemical knowledge one has. Once this knowledge is organized and systematized within the framework of the periodic table, prediction of chemical behavior, and properties of the elements and their compounds becomes possible. As the periodic table is a main topic in the learning process of chemistry, a procedure for presenting it to students who take a chemistry course for the first time is reported here.
