Abstract

This article is an attempt to show how the periodic table of the elements is a meeting point for the different facets of our culture: humanistic, artistic and scientific. This icon of chemistry together with its components constitute a source of inspiration for creators, as well as a model for the visual organization of information elements in many fields of knowledge. For that reason, the periodic table is a first rate pedagogical tool, not only for teaching chemistry, but also for building bridges with other disciplines. With this purpose, examples related to music, literature, fine arts, cartoons and films are given.
