Abstract

Paints and pigments have been present in our life since prehistory when primitive civilizations used them to decorate caves and solid minerals. However, during the evolution of the world, paints and pigments have transformed a lot of commercial and useful products for society. In this article, the goal is to discuss chemistry of paints and pigments as a guiding theme: covering historical issues, compositions, manufacturing processes and environmental impacts, and emphasizing a scientific humanist nature.
