Abstract Chemistry as a science and as a technology (the chemical industry) poses ethical problems. Some recent publications, such as J. Kovac’s book The Ethical Chemist, or a set of articles in a journal of philosophy of chemistry, have dealt with these topics. These questions can help science teachers better understand the nature of science and technology; and can serve as a basis for educational activities in a science for citizenship approach.
