Abstract

The composition of pig slurry all organic fertilizers obtained from the residues of animals, is very variable. This study has determined an evident influence of the kind of exploitation in the slurry composition. There are two important factors in the level of dilution of the fresh slurry, such as the system of feeding (water dosage or water ad livitum) and the period of the year (summer or winter), taking into account that the slurry comes from exploitations with the same system of washing, production and storage of slurry. A good correlation between the constitutive elements of the slurry and the dry material, total phosphorus and density has been established. Current tendencies in the formulation of compound fodder and new customs of handling of exploitations have produced a substantial change in the contents of some elements that are now to be found in the slurry. This study aims to be a practical tool for the farmers in their exploitations since it provides a food valuation of the physical-chemical composition of the slurry and its value as organic fertilizer. In spite of this, it could be interesting to carry out some periodic analytical determinations of the slurry from the farm to learn more about the product that was used in the field or transformed through any kind of treatment, and, thus improve management.
