Abstract

About the presence of the genus Myrmechixenus Chevrolat, 1835 in the Iberian Peninsula (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Diaperinae: Myrmechixenini) In the collections made during 2006 at Planes de Son, Pyrenees from Lleida, to the knowledge of the invertebrates of the area, the beetle Myrmechixenus subterraneus Chevrolat, 1835, were caught, resulting the first record for the genus and the species for the Iberian Peninsula. The systematic position of the tribe Myrmechixenini is discussed, due to changes in family assigned after its description. The specific characters of M. subterraneus are given and its biology and distribution are reported. The habitus of the species and maps of Planes de Son and Mata de València, indicating the collection site of the species are also offered.
