Abstract

We present the methodology and main results of work on a Red List of Vascular Flora in the county of La Garrotxa, carried out between 2003 and 2004.. Taking as a basis all the vascular plants in the county previously cited as threatened or rare and the IUCN Red List criteria (2001), a list of plants species under threat in La Garrotxa was obtained. This work is essentially orientated towards the management and conservation of the biodiversity of La Garrotxa. The list consists of taxa that are endemic to the county or found nowhere else in Catalonia or the Iberian Peninsula, as well as others that are more widespread but which are in danger of dying out in La Garrotxa. Local-based conservation of these latter taxa is also important as part of their overall protection.
