Noves aportacions al coneixement de la teratologia elitral en coleòpters dinàstids ibèrics (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea)

Abstract

New data on elytral teratology in Iberian dynastid beetles (Coleoptera, Scarabaeoidea) We present new data on teratology in dynastid beetles (Coleoptera, Scarabaeoidea) from the Iberian Peninsula, specifically in Oryctes nasicornis (Linnaeus, 1746), Callignemis latreillei (Laporte de Castelnau, 1832) and Phyllognathus excavatus (Forster, 1771). The «elitral plicature» described is a new elytral teratology, found isolated or associated with other structural malformations such as brachyelytria and changes in the pronotum. The effect of various environmental contaminants and the morphological changes in the insects as bioindicators of environmental stress are discussed.
