L'estudi històric de les societats naturalistes en contexts locals: el cas valencià dins el cas espanyol Authors Jesús Ignasi Català Gorgues Abstract During the first decades of the 20th century, the activities of naturalists in the Valencian Country reached a notable level of quality and intensity. This was accompanied by a considerable development of natural history associations. This paper summarises this process and sets it in the general Spanish context. It also suggests some ways of illuminating, through studies of this type, other questions relating to the social aspects of natural history, such as the relationship between professionals and amateurs, the creation of universal knowledge in local contexts, and the adaptation of the process of association to the social particularities of the time and place.
