Abstract

The two-tailed Pasha, Charaxes jasius (L.), show a fragmented breeding area in the section of the «Serra Pre-Litoral Catalana» between the Montserrat and Montseny massif. This fragmentation of its breeding territory is due to habitat variability. Although in other ways the species has been studied in depth, excessive importance is attributed to Arbutus unedo (L.) as a limiting plant species. In the breeding territories found, height above sea level an the presence of Mediterranean scrub have been identified as the key variables in the choice of a breeding locality by the species. Arbutus unedo is uniformly present thoughout yhe scrub of the mountain range in question, both in the zones occupied by the species and in those that are not.
